Delivery of Founder Education: Background & Objectives
On 2 August 2017 LaunchVic called for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to develop Founder Education programs for Victorian startups that will dirve capability and excellence local startup community. LaunchVic sought EOIs from organisations who can deliver high quality startup founder education programs a range of areas including: Personal leadership and development; Corporate governance and organisation (taxation, company policies etc.); Investment support (investor pitching); Marketing support; Export and growth skills; Engaging corporates (sales) and Product development.
Expressions of interest were closed on 21 September 2017. 90 applications were received and have been reviewed by an internal assessment panel and the LaunchVic Grants Committee. 13 of these applications have been deemed as being such high quality (and no other directly competitive proposals were received) that LaunchVic will solicit detailed program proposals and explore direct funding.
LaunchVic received 25 proposals under Personal leadership and development for startup founders. In line with the Founder Education EOI Program Guidelines LaunchVic is extending an invite to shortlisted respondents to participate in a competitive closed grant round. LaunchVic is not accepting new applicants under this round and unsuccessful applicants are ineligible to apply.
LaunchVic will be investing up to $250,000 per successful application.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted through the LaunchVic online application system. Applicants need to provide additional information on their original proposal, as detailed under the Key Assessment Criteria. Applicants will need to read and submit the declaration at the end of the application. Applicants can preview the application form via the online system before starting a submission. Applications must be submitted via LaunchVic online application system by the due date and time, 10am AEDT Thursday 16 November 2017. Applications will not be accepted outside of the LaunchVic online application system and will not be accepted for this round after this date.
To be eligible, applicants must be invited to the closed grant round by LaunchVic and include their EOI SmartyGrants application ID number.
Key Assessment Criteria
Applicants will be required to address the following via the online application form. Please preview the application form via the LaunchVic online application system for the word count and exact requirements.
|1. Program Overview||Outline any additional information on your proposed program in relation to how it will deliver impact and benefits to Victorian startup founders. If you have not provided it in the EOI application, please include the number of workshops, bootcamps, classes etc and in depth details of the proposed curriculum. Please indicate what materials (if any) may be able to be shared publicly through the LaunchVic website. Applicants that make matierals publicly available will be viewed more favourably. Include the amount requested from LaunchVic and any applicant contributions (cash and/or in-kind).|
|2. Key Personnel||Provide any further details of the key personnel (program management and delivery team members etc.) who will deliver the program. List the Project Manager for the Program.|
|3. Measures of Success||Outline the measures of success and success metrics for the program. Provide figures on how many Victorian startup founders and/or startup executives the program will support.|
|4. Delivery Schedule||Provide a detailed delivery schedule from February 2018 to the program end (upload file). Note: The program must be completed by June 2019.|
|5. Budget||Outline the income (including requested LaunchVic funding, in-kind and applicant cash contributions) and expenditure for the proposed program by item. Expenditure items may include but are not limited to: space rental, promotion/advertising, salaries and catering.|
|6. Participant Recruitment & Promotion||Outline how you will promote the program and recruit participants (Victorian Startup Founders and Victorian Startup Executives) to meet targets.|
Assessment and Selection
Applications must be submitted via the LaunchVic online application system by the specified deadline.
All applications will be assessed for eligibility by LaunchVic. Applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be assessed. Eligible applications will be evaluated against the Key Assessment Criteria by an “Assessment Panel” (comprising at least two LaunchVic staff and one representative from the Victorian Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources) and a subcommittee of the LaunchVic Board, the “Grants Committee” (comprising at least two Board Members). LaunchVic may at its discretion appoint external members to the Grants Committee.
Shortlisted applicants undergo further due diligence by LaunchVic and the Victorian Department of Economic Development, who conduct a Financial Risk Assessment. Applicants will be required to provide additional information, including but not limited to financial statements. Information provided will be kept strictly confidential.
LaunchVic may enter negotiations with shortlisted applicants to refine project proposals.
Funding outcomes are ultimately determined by the LaunchVic Board and their decision is final.
Successful applicants will be required to enter a contract with LaunchVic and provide project reporting and/or evidence of project progress to receive payments under agreed milestones.
All applications are made at the applicants’ own cost and will not be reimbursed, whether the application is successful or unsuccessful.
