Last Updated: Friday 25 October

Victorian startups are being called upon to help solve vital farm safety and productivity challenges as part of a new program.

The CivVic Labs Farm Safety challenge was officially launched last night in front of an audience of entrepreneurs and tech founders.

LaunchVic, the Victorian government’s startup agency, is delivering the program in partnership with Agriculture Victoria. CivVic Labs is a challenge-based bootcamp experience that connects aspiring and early-stage startup founders to government to solve public sector challenges.

Running over six weeks, this challenge is funded through Agriculture Victoria’s AgTech Regional Innovation Network (AgRIN) and will support startup founders to address the pivotal issue of farm safety through new and innovative technology solutions.

Farms make up 14% of workplace fatalities in Victoria, despite employing only 2% of working Victorians. On average, 2 people are hospitalised by an incident on a Victorian farm every day.

Since 2018, CivVic Labs has been a launch pad for more than 50 local startups, as it provides a unique opportunity for founders to build with a potential customer in the room, with alumni startups raising nearly $20 million in investment capital since the program’s inception.
